Our Story

In 1989 Sharon Titian responded to the call on her life which led her to a remote village in the Volta Region of Ghana, West Africa.  Life was very hard there for a Canadian woman and Sharon suffered greatly during those early years.  Still the Lord used her there to expose the Tro-Kosi Fetish Shrine system.  Under this system young girls are enslaved in the shrines to atone for the crime of a family member. They become the property of a Fetish Priest, deprived of food, medical help, education and basic needs and suffer terrible reproach by their families and communities.

Sharon gained favour with the Fetish Priests and she gained favour to help the girls. For the next 10 years Sharon helped to provide life skills and vocational training to enable these girls to become self-supporting as well as teaching them the Word of God.  After accepting Jesus Christ into their hearts they were delivered and set free from demonic oppression, fear and guilt.

In 1994 Sharon was asked to provide evidence to the Parliament of Ghana to introduce a bill which would stop this cultural abuse of women and young girls.  By the grace of God, in 1998 a law was passed in Ghana to abolish the practice.  A Vocational Training Center was established at Missions International (Titian Ministries International) where the then free Tro-Kosi girls could learn skills which would help them to become independent.

Work continued with the schooling for the poor of the area needing economic help.  Literacy and vocational training was provided for both young men and women.  In November 2002 a Biblical Studies Program was started after a request from local church leaders.  The Bible School provided diplomas and degrees for Ghanaian students who desired education in biblical studies but would never be able to afford it.  At the same time Sharon established a feeding and social program for the elderly people called “Loaves and Fishes.”

After eighteen years of working in Ghana the needs of the community changed.  In response Rev Sharon concentrated on providing a feeding program for the elderly and a home for at risk children who the social welfare department and educational services brought to her for care.

In obedience to the Lord, Reverend Titian opened the mission’s doors to the orphaned and abused children in the Volta Region. Many children were victims of HIV/AIDS as well as child labor and trafficking. By God’s grace she began providing a home for them where she could nurture them and share the love of Jesus with them. Rev. Sharon believed that the Lord had a purpose for each of these children; and especially those who have no relatives.

Children of Zion first began in the Adidome facility which is located on the Volta River. Rev Sharon received the first needy children in 2003.  In 2004, she decided to apply to be a Children’s Home and received more children into the facility. In January 2005 the ministry was registered as an NGO.

After several years Rev. Sharon felt to move the children to Anloga on the coast. The spiritual atmosphere was much more peaceful for the children. One of the Ghana Board members approached the District Assembly to release a barracks building to the ministry and they agreed.  The children were moved into their new facility on September 17th, 2009 and were registered in their new school. Rev. Sharon found about 4 acres of land and began the process of building a home.

Rev. Sharon Titian was called home to be with the Lord in July 2011.

In 2013 a new season began to rebuild Titian Ministries. The ministry had been laying fallow for 2 years and the support had dwindled drastically. There were was only one ministry still supporting the children. Dr. Gertuda Armaly responded to the call of the Lord to become the International Director for Titian Ministries.

On September 30th 2013, with Reg and Trevor Titian’s permission, and Jill Hood’s support, we held our first official Board Meeting. We established a new board and the members were as follow: Chairperson Dr. Gerrie Armaly, Vice Chair Reg Titian, Treasurer Trevor Titian, Secretary Dr. Claude Page, Directors Michael Johnson and Seth Agbeyakah.

In 2013 a team of 9 people went to Ghana to restore the headquarters in Adidome. Rev. Donna Rohrmilller had agreed to become our Director in Ghana and she would live in that facility. Our next task would be to renovate the barracks for the children until the house on the ocean could be completed.

At that time, we had 24 children in our two homes.  The younger children were located at the Barracks facility. That facility had to be upgraded with a fresh paint job, new mosquito netting (screens) on the windows, a new bathroom, septic tank, and eating area. We fenced in the play area and playground equipment was provided for the children.

There was great lack with beds, screens on windows, tables and benches for them to eat on. All of that was put in place for them over the next couple of years.

The house on the ocean was left unfinished when Rev. Sharon died in July of 2011. The apartment upstairs was completed in 2016 with cupboards, kitchen, bedrooms, and dining/living area that houses the young ladies, younger boys, Xorve and William the foster parents and their four children.  Downstairs a bedroom /bathroom was built for the older boys.  There was also a study hall, community room and storage room.  We have surrounded the property with a 9ft. high wall to protect the children.

Pastor Mike and Joanne were our first mission team to go to Anloga Ghana, West Africa in March of 2013. They met with Pastor Paul Akotey and all of his staff, and many of the children there. They visited our facilities and took pictures to show us the level or repair needed. The facility had stood empty for 5 years.

In Sept of 2014 a team of 9 people went to Ghana to restore the headquarters in Adidome. Rev. Donna Rohrmilller had agreed to become our Director in Ghana and she would live in that facility. Our next task would be to renovate the barracks for the children until the house on the ocean could be completed.

At that time, we had 24 children in our two homes.  The younger children were located at the Barracks facility. That facility had to be upgraded with a fresh paint job, new mosquito netting (screens) on the windows, a new bathroom, septic tank, bunk beads, mattresses, tables and benches for their eating area. Sheets were brought over, as well as towels. They needed plates, cups and cutlery. So much was lacking in their existence. With each

mission trip suitcases full of clothes were brought over purchased by families at Antioch Christian Ministries. It brought our church great joy to do this.

We fenced in the play area and playground equipment was provided for the children. The older children lived with Xorve and William in a bungalow that was rented by the ministry

In Dec of 2014 we also began to build the much-needed cement block fence around our ocean front facility. Because the property lay dormant for about 3 years, neighbors had begun to encroach on the land. They were actually starting to bring cement blocks on to our land to build a house. Because of this we began the process of building parts of the wall to protect our land and to clearly mark the boundaries of the property. Since then the wall has been completed all the way around the 4- acre property, up to six blocks high. The finished wall is 9 ft high. Gates were installed at the road and down to the ocean. We still need to put another 3 rows on to complete it and have a proper gate made.

The house on the ocean was left unfinished when Rev. Sharon died in July of 2011. Because of need we also decided to add on a bedroom and bathroom downstairs. This area is for the older boys. There is also a storage room, a study hall and a meeting room. We also added an outside kitchen for them to cook their banku.

Our next large project was to build the bungalow. We were no longer a children’s home, but had shifted over to Foster Care. This project began in 2019.  We built a 4 bedroom bungalow. We put in 2 bathrooms, living room and kitchen. It would house some of our younger children with a Foster Mother. Now the children were all on the same property. On June 30th 2020 the children moved in. It was an exciting day.

Our Farming Project is an incredible success story. We put down a well and installed a sprinkling system. The property was broken up into two farms. A second well was put in on the second farm. They planted Okra, corn, and shallots.

In March of 2022 we began to give support to Winning Star International School. It was during our season of Covid. Ghana had economic difficulties too. The Pastor, Rev Fred Bansah came to us in desperation.  This is part of a church plant that was done about 15 years ago by Titian Ministries.  The staff was not being paid and they were unable to feed the 90 children that come from the surrounding poor villages. Here too there are great needs as desk and curriculum are needed. The rooms are open to the elements and the floors are just dirt floors. This too has been a great success story.

********pictures of the smaller children and the long building.

We reestablished our Loaves and fishes program and feed 56 elderly people on a monthly basis.

November 14, 2015 the bible school was re opened. It is by local pastors who teach. The school is raising up many wonderful young men and women to be leaders and pastors in the community.

During this season of restoration, our children continued to grow and several are now in University. Joseph is ready to graduate from college as a teacher. Joshua has graduated as a nurse. Rita has completed her apprenticeship as a seamstress and is working in a factory. Prosper in in University for graphic design.

BIBLE SCHOOL

November 14, 2015 was an exciting day, one that we had been in preparation for quite some time. It was on that day that we held the first class of our new IAM Bible School! Years before, Rev. Sharon Titian first hosted a part-time extension program from Pinecrest Bible Training Center, and later established Mount Zion Bible College under Shalom Bible College and Seminary. The vision of Titian Ministries was to reestablish a Bible school at the Adidome site and this was the right time. Relationships had been formed with the local church community through visits to local churches and a Pastors and Leaders Seminar. From this, seven pastors from local churches volunteered to teach in the Bible school.

The IAM Bible School is a part-time, one-year program that has a great impact on the lives and ministries of those who attend. The intent of the school is to see regional transformation as local Christian leaders join together to train believers in Biblical values and release them into their personal callings. The first and foremost desire is to impart a love for God, intimacy with Him through prayer and worship, and the formation of Godly character in the lives of the students. The goal is to enable students to apprehend and be released in their specific callings for the Lord’s glory. The cost is affordable because we are using existing buildings and partnering with local pastors and lay leaders to be volunteer teachers.

Evangelism and Missions are an emphasis of this school. Our classroom training consists of a Basic Bible and a Discipleship Training course, as well as Old and New Testament Survey. The students participate each month in practical experience of outreach evangelism and works of mercy. They plan for and go on a mission trip before graduation.

Our goal is to re-establish the full time Bible School in addition to the IAM Bible School.

MISSIONS

From the early days of this mission, Rev. Sharon hosted short-term mission teams who came to teach, preach, and give humanitarian aid. A village church, Mount Zion Community Church, was an offshoot of one of these mission trips.  The missionaries along with Bible School students, held a crusade and the church grew from there. One of the Bible School students is now the pastor of this flourishing church and he now also has started a Christian Primary School.

There are missionaries in Ghana now who received their start in Adidome at Titian Ministries (then called Missions International). Rev. Donna, the current director of the mission is one of them. She first came to the mission on her Bible school internship in 2004.

We believe this is a very important part of the ministry as these teams bring people whose skills and gifts are of great value to the work and to the people whose lives we touch. We also pray future missionaries will be raised up from this work.

Today, we have a yearly mission team come from Canada with Pastor Gerrie, our International Director. In 2014, they renovated the mission house so Rev. Donna could move in and start operating from Adidome. In 2015 and 2016, the team worked on completing the house on the ocean for Children of Zion and in 2017, also did some work on the Adidome facility. Pastors and Leaders Conferences, as well as some speaking in local churches, have been highlights each year as Pastor Gerrie and the team pour out their hearts to build up the church in Ghana. You can see reports from these trips under “Updates”

We have also been blessed to have other missionaries come, including past teachers in our Bible schools, and are looking forward with anticipation to who the Lord will bring to us each year!

ADIDOME

Rev. Donna Rohrmiller

There was a great and mighty foundation laid in Adidome by our Lord through Rev. Sharon Titian. But the years passed and life at the mission was slowly fading away after her death. Even the fruit trees were not bearing much fruit nor the flowering tree, flowers. However, the Author of Life was and is still here and He holds out much promise to us about His strong desire for continuing and ever increasing the work that was begun. This verse from Isaiah 58:12 describes the work of restoration that has been going on since 2014: “Those from among you shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.”

Adidome continues to be the hub out of which direction for the work in Ghana comes. Rev. Donna Rohrmiller, the local director of the ministry in Ghana, lives and works from our 5 acre compound located on the Volta River.

  • Our Bible school is held on the mission compound. We have two school buildings which we have started to renovate.

  • We hold Pastors and Leaders Conferences to encourage and build up the local pastors, churches, and ministries.

  • In our Loaves and Fishes program, we minister to the neediest of the elderly. Each month we meet to distribute food and soap, give an encouraging message, and pray for them.

  • We hold intercessory prayer at our site in town for the transformation of Adidome, the Volta Region, and all of Ghana.

  • Mission teams who come often work from this location.

  • Our precious children are located in Anloga, at the coast of Ghana.

Our desire is for the mission to be a place where the Lord is comfortable to dwell and where His Presence will be ever increasing among us.

We need your prayer and we need your financial support behind us in this work. We need those who feel a call in their spirit to partner with us in restoration. We need those with a vision for revival of this land. We need those who have tasted of the Lord’s Presence and want to help us provide a place where others can come to know Him more intimately. If this is your heart, we would love for you to become a part of what is already starting to happen!
